hi, I'm Spoorthi and I am 10 years old as of 2021. This blogs purpose is to create awareness about Indian festivals and culture. As today is Ganesh Chaturthi, I will be telling about this marvelous festival.

Topic

How do we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi in old times?

They had a lot of things to do today. They make lot of sweets and get fruits. Everyone does head bath and puja. In the puja they have to make two things, Vastram and Yagnypaveetm.

Vastram-it is a round cotton thing used like the Ganesh's towel.

Yagnypaveetm -A thing tied to the Ganesh as shown in the 2nd picture.

Some chants they say are-

Shuklambharadaram Vishnu shashivarnam chathbujam| Prasamna vadanam dhayeth sarvavignopa shantaya|| Ayam muhurtham sumuhortostu... tadevalagnam sudinam tadeva, taarabalam chandrabalam tadeva, Vidhyabalam dhaiva bhalam tadeva| Vidhyabalam daivabalam tadeva lakshmi pathe them ghri yugam smarami yashhivonamarupashkyam yadevi Sarvamangala toya susamsmaratussasam savatho jaymangalam.

They also tie a thread called 'kankanam' to there hand  😀

At last we celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi peacefully.

How do we celebrate it now?

Now there are a lot of people keeping DJ's and making a big Ganapati, they also immerse the Ganapati in water. It creates lot of problem for others and there is a lot of pollution happening. Ganesh Chaturthi is supposed to be celebrated peacefully not like this. Some people also celebrate this festival peacefully at home which has to be continued.

Myths in society

Women should not do puja only men

Don't look at the moon today

Don't eat dal(pappu) today

Story on why should we not see the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi?

We should not see the moon on Ganesh Chaturthi, as on Ganesh's birthday the moon teased the Ganesh and then his mother came and told everyone in this world to not see moon on Ganesh Chaturthi.
